Head Start Program
Get a Head Start on Uni
Head Start gives motivated Year 11 and 12 students an opportunity to accelerate their tertiary studies and gain credit towards a degree by completing a course (subject) at Griffith while still at high school. With the tuition fee covered by the University, Head Start lets you build academic skills and confidence and get a taste for university life before finishing school.
Study science and environment at Griffith
Hear from Professor Tim Riley and Professor Chris Frid, School of Environment and Science; Associate Professor Kylie Pitt, Australian Rivers Institute; Professor Vicky Avery and Professor Jennifer Martin, Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery; and Professor Howard Wiseman, Centre for Quantum Dynamics.
Practical experience
We offer a range of flexible and innovative programs to give you practical experience beyond the classroom. Depending on what you study, you could find yourself studying wildlife in Nepal or alpine plants in the Australian Alps. You can also complete an industry-based project, which will prepare you for the workplace and provide valuable industry networks before you graduate.
Learn from leading researchers
Throughout your degree you will be taught by leading Australian researchers who are developing scientific solutions to global challenges. In the most recent Excellence in Research for Australia results, Griffith rated ‘well above world standards’, the maximum rating possible for chemical sciences, environmental sciences, evolutionary biology, chemistry, condensed matter physics and quantum physics. Griffith was also named the Nature Index Rising Star for the Oceania region in 2018.
Committed to sustainability
With teaching focused on natural, social and economic aspects of the environment, Griffith is committed to sustainability. You’ll be learning from researchers who are investigating reef building algae that could help coral reefs withstand rising temperatures, gathering insights on how changing ocean conditions are influencing the recovery of whale populations and bringing off-grid renewable power systems to the Pacific Islands.
Unique degree offerings
With a broad and distinct range of science and environment degrees and majors on offer, you’ll find a course to suit your area of interest. You could study the only forensic science degree in Queensland or broaden your career options and develop a specialised skillset by combining your science or environmental science degree with a data science degree.
Study your way
You can create your course timetable to fit in with your job or your travel plans, just ask us how. With the flexibility of studying part-time or full-time, over two or three trimesters, you have choices.
Career opportunities
Our science and environment degrees span a range of careers. Depending on your degree and specialisation, you might find opportunities in environmental conservations, health organisations, marine parks, energy and resource companies, government departments or research institutes.
