How to submit

For information relevant to the three major assessment tools, refer to the following pages:

What if something goes wrong with my submission?

Occasionally, you may find that you encounter problems with online assessment submission. For example:

  • Your computer crashes or your internet disconnects during an online exam or quiz
  • You accidentally exit an online exam or quiz or accidentally click Submit before answering all the questions
  • You receive an error when trying to upload an assignment file (especially with large video/document files over 500 megabytes)
  • You accidentally upload the incorrect file for an assignment and you cannot make any further submissions

If you encounter issues like this, the pages linked from the 'How to Submit' section above may contain information on the cause of the problem. You may also be able to receive assistance from your Course Convenor and the IT Service Centre. It is important to note the type of assistance provided by these members of staff will be different.

Your Course Convenor has the access and authority to allow additional assessment attempts at their discretion. For this reason, we generally recommend contacting your Course Convenor with a description (and screenshots, if possible) of any errors or issues you encountered so they are aware of what happened. This allows them to make an informed decision about additional attempts. They may contact the IT Service Centre if they require any further technical information, advice or assistance.

In general, the IT Service Centre may be able to provide technical advice regarding why an issue occurred and how to avoid it happening again. Providing a clear description (and screenshots, if possible) of the issue when you contact the IT Service Centre will make it easier for support staff to assist. However in some cases the cause of the issue may remain unclear. Whether the issue can be identified or not, in most cases you will be directed to your Course Convenor for any decisions related to receiving an additional attempt. You may also be directed to make an application for deferred assessment or special consideration in some circumstances.

What if there are system-wide issues with Learning@Griffith?

Section 3.8.5 of the Assessment Procedure for Students makes provisions for automatic extensions where service disruptions or outages prevent you from submitting an assessment.

Why can’t I see a plagiarism report for my assessment?

Your submission file type is not supported: Password-protected files,  Apple Pages, Other Non-standard file types (.wps, .odt, .od). Turnitin does not support PDF image files, forms, or portfolios, files that do not contain highlightable text (e.g. a scanned file - usually an image).

Assignment settings: The instructor has changed the setting to generate in 24 hours if you have made three attempts or generate reports on the assignment due date, so you will not be able to view your Similarity Report until that date has passed. Instructors may also restrict students from ever viewing their Similarity Report. Please contact your instructor for more information.

Turnitin service outage: During times of service disruption, report generation may be affected. If you are experiencing issues and should have a Similarity Report, view the Turnitin system status page

I am having problems with my online exam. What can I do?

If you are having problems with a proctored online exam, see our ProctorU Troubleshooting page. You may also find the ProctorU Frequently asked questions useful.

If you are having problems with your (non-proctored) online exam, please try the following:

What if I hand in my assignment late?

If you submit an assessment item after the due time on the due date, without an approved extension, it will be penalised. Section 3.5.2 of the Assessment Procedure for Students outlines the policies and penalties surrounding for late submissions.

What if I have uploaded the incorrect file?

Unfortunately, submitted papers cannot be deleted without approval from the Course Convenor. They may contact the IT Service Centre if they require any further technical information, advice or assistance.

How can I check that I have submitted correctly?

In a course site, click on the “Mark” page in the navigation menu. On this page, you will see your submission time, you can also select click the assignment name link and view your submission for confirmation.

Alternatively, if it is a Turnitin assignment, you can confirm your submission by navigating to and opening the submission point. You should be able to see your submission in the Turnitin menu, you can then access your submission and see the submission time.

No notifications get sent out following a submission, but students can check that they have submitted by following the above process

Who do I talk to about accessibility adjustments in assessments?

You can seek advice from Griffith's Student Disability and Accessibility team regarding strategies for completing assessment.

These include reasonable adjustments to exam conditions, such as additional time or use of assistive technologies. Be sure to get in contact with the team before the course starts to allow time for your requirements and the exam conditions to be considered and adjustments identified.

All adjustments to assessment must be formally recommended by Student Disability and Accessibility and are based on your individual needs. These adjustments are added into individual settings in Learning@Griffith.

You may also find our Accessibility in Learning@Griffith page useful.

Can I appeal my final grade?

Yes. If you believe that an error has been made in respect of the calculation of the grade awarded you can request a review. Consult with your Course Convenor regarding your grade first either in person or in writing. For more information see here Student review and appeals.

What type of decisions can be reviewed?

Students can request reviews of the following types of University decisions:

  • An academic decision in relation to their studies. For example, final grades, progression, honours classification, exclusion, termination of candidature, eligibility to graduate, special consideration, deferred exams.
  • An administrative decision. For example, fees, admission, enrolment and attendance, termination of scholarship.

Refer to Section 3.6 of the Student Review and Appeals Procedure for a full schedule of University academic and administrative decisions that may be reviewed and reviewed and appealed.

What is the difference between a Review and an Appeal?

A Review is a check that the process to reach a decision was consistent with the relevant policy and procedures, and the outcome reached is reasonable.

An Appeal is a request to reverse or overturn a decision. An appeal re-examines all the materials presented, can make determinations of credibility and can overturn or substitute the decision made.

Please note that not all decisions can be appealed.

How do I see my marks, feedback and overall course grades?

Information on marks, assessment feedback, grade point averages and more can be found at Marks, feedback and course grades.

Your full unofficial transcript can be found on your myGriffith page.

Can HDR Students run their thesis through Turnitin?

Unfortunately, no.

All HDR students are enrolled into course sites. If they would like to access Turnitin, they will need to contact the Griffith Graduate Research School (GGRS). They have the access and authority to create a Draft Turnitin Submission point in one of these course sites if they decide it is appropriate.
