Promoting Chinese culture and language through education
The Tourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University was established in 2011 under an agreement between Griffith University, the Office of Chinese Language Council International in China and the China University of Mining and Technology.
The TCI is the first and only Confucius Institute with an emphasis on tourism. In addition to promoting the learning of the Chinese language and culture at Griffith University and in the broader community, the TCI seeks to build and deepen links and collaborative opportunities between China and Australia in the field of tourism.
Director’s message
The Tourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University opened its doors only at the end of 2012, but has within a short space of time established itself as a significant institute on the Gold Coast dedicated to the teaching of Chinese language courses that focus on tourism, and the promotion of intercultural exchange and understanding. The TCI is a member of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council and the Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce. Our Chinese language and culture courses are well known to industry and government organisations on the Gold Coast. Equally well-known are the TCI’s school and community outreach culture programs. The TCI organises Chinese musical performances and other cultural events at local schools and community centres, including libraries and retirement homes. We welcome you and your family to our events, many of which are free as part of the TCI’s outreach programs.
