Our ongoing commitment to sustainability is making a difference to our students, staff and communities

At Griffith, our teaching, operations, research and engagement programs align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to equip the next generation of leaders, innovators and decision makers with the knowledge and skills to tackle global challenges.

We see the SDGs as a reflection of our core values and are commited to investing in First Peoples, environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and social justice for a better world—now and in the future.

17 Partnerships for the goals

Sustainable Development Goals

Griffith University is aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is committed to fostering partnerships to create synergies, best practices and amplifying our impact in achieving the SDGs for a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.

Sustainable partnerships and engagement

Binna Burra

Griffith University is the lead university partner for a new era of the iconic Binna Burra Lodge, which was devastated by bushfires in September 2019.

A memorandum of understanding between Griffith and Binna Burra Lodge cements a strategic partnership between the University and the historic nature-based tourism provider, focusing on collaborative research and education outcomes.

Centre for Systems Innovation

Part of the Griffith Business School, the Centre for Systems Innovation is a university-wide platform to research, advise, educate and create global connections on impact-led innovation.

The Centre for Systems Innovation’s purpose is to equip people with knowledge, capacity and opportunities to create positive, societal impact.

Natura Pacific

Griffith has partnered with Gold Coast-based environmental company Natura Pacific to produce a free gardening app—GroNative.

The easy-to-use app promotes planting local flora and provides people in South East Queensland with helpful information on growing conditions, flowering times, form, colour and biodiversity benefits.

EcoCentre

The EcoCentre is a key element of the Griffith Sciences Partnerships Office, promoting the idea that the knowledge, frameworks and resources to develop a truly sustainable world already exist.

The building itself acts as a fundamental education tool, with features that incorporate strict principles of sustainable design.

Policies, reports and plans

Griffith University's sustainability policies, plans and strategies help mitigate the impact of our operations and outline our steps to reduce our carbon footprint to support our commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.

Griffith is committed to responsible investments

Griffith University's free cash, other than nominal amounts in operational bank accounts, is invested in either the Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC) Capital Guaranteed Cash Fund or the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) Growth Fund. The QTC Capital Guaranteed Cash Fund invests the majority of its funds in medium-term floating rate notes, discount securities, and cash, in banks and financial institutions. QIC is a signatory to the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) initiative and has adopted a Responsible Investment Policy that outlines its commitment to the principles of the UNPRI.
