Strengthen your understanding of societies, cultures, languages and people

Studying arts and humanities will challenge you to think critically and creatively, to innovate, to communicate for influence, and to harness the power of your ideas.

You will develop a deeper understanding of societies, cultures and people, and how to communicate effectively with them. As part of your degree you'll have access to internships and hands-on projects that enhance your skills and strengthen your confidence.

Adam Drake has had a varied and interesting career since graduating from a Bachelor of Arts. After working with youth-based theatre production companies, he was inspired to found Balanced Choice, an organisation providing fitness and theatre programs for young people. The program has been rolled out across three states, and Adam – a 2019 Northern Territory Australian of the Year nominee – facilitates workshops for over 50 organisations nationwide. He recently returned to Griffith to run a workshop for the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science course, Drama for Social Action.

Create more career paths

You can complement your professional interests with study in a wide range of areas including sociology, security studies, politics and international studies, literary studies, creative writing, Islam—West relations, Indigenous studies or history, to create your own unique skill set. Plus you'll have access to an extensive range of internships, practical experiences and overseas travel opportunities to enhance your knowledge, skills and potential.

Real skills, knowledge and connections

We play a major role in education and training for federal and state government, and work closely with arts and industry organisations and community services to provide responses to contemporary issues. Our degrees are informed by industry, which means you can be confident you'll graduate with the skills employers want.

Learn a language

The ability to communicate in other languages and understand cultures will help you in almost any career you choose. Studying a language at Griffith is the next best thing to learning in the country of origin. We specialise in Chinese, Spanish, Japanese and Italian. You can also deepen your knowledge and understanding by studying linguistics, the science of language.
