Accessing help with your concerns, grievances and complaints
Student advocates and other relevant support services can assist and support you before, during and after raising your issues with the University.
Assistance is available if you:
- are unsure how to raise issues with the relevant person or service area
- feel unable to address challenging situations on your own
- want help putting your case forward to the University.
Support person
If you are requested to attend meetings with a University staff member or the Student Ombudsman, a support person—such as a student advocate, a family member or friend—may accompany you.
The support person must not be a currently practising solicitor or barrister. The role of the support person is to bear witness to the meeting and what is discussed.
Student representation
If you want to appoint a support person to represent you in your case, you must complete an authority to release information or transact business on behalf of a student form and attach it to your complaint submission.
Once the completed and signed authority form is provided to the University, the form will be added to your student file. At this stage, the University will be able to discuss and/or disclose any relevant information with your support person.
Student advocacy
In addition to helping you have an active and enjoyable campus experience, Griffith's various student associations offer confidential and independent advocacy services to help navigate and understand University policies. These associations also provide support and advocate for students with concerns, complaints, reviews and appeals.
