Collaborating to forge partnerships
We collaborate with a number of organisations to forge partnerships, programs and scholarships that benefit students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Queensland Widening Participation Consortium
Griffith is a founding member of the Queensland Statewide Consortium, which is a collaboration of Queensland's public universities and the Department of Education to undertake a range of widening participation activities.
In 2010 the Consortium received a $21 million grant under the Higher Education Participation and Partnership Program to run programs under the MOU (memorandum of understanding) and continues to collaborate to improve the access and participation for people from LSES and Indigenous backgrounds in Higher Education. The 2009 background document illustrates the underpinnings of this project.
In 2013, the Queensland Consortium presented at the European Access Network's (EAN) World Congress on access to post-secondary education in Canada. As part of the presentation, we distributed information on a range of projects and partners.
In 2015 the Consortium produced a summary of case studies and research which supports the objectives of the Consortium.
The Smith Family
We support The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program through a Memorandum of Understanding, which focuses on aspiration raising and university transition for disadvantaged students in the Logan – Gold Coast corridor. Learning for Life students have access to:
- our equity outreach, admissions and transition support programs
- Learning for Life student-specific activities
- equity scholarships
- career guidance and counselling
- online tutoring and writing assistance.
We also celebrate Learning for Life student achievements through hosting The Smith Family Tertiary Awards events annually at the Gold Coast and Logan.
Country Education Foundation of Australia
Griffith has a partnership agreement with Country Education Foundation to support financially disadvantaged CEF-supported rural and regional students enrolling at the University.
Out-of-home-care leavers
Griffith University works with a number of government and community organisations to support out-of-home-care (OOHC) leavers who have been in foster or kinship caring environments and are looking towards tertiary study.
OOHC leavers can have additional barriers and challenges around making good career choices, affordability, finding accommodation and transitioning to university. We encourage students enrolled at our partner schools to get involved with our Uni-Reach program and to contact us about studying at Griffith. Once enrolled we ensure OOHC leavers have access to relevant support services.
