Union membership
Griffith recognises unions and labour rights (including freedom of association and collective bargaining) for all employees. The University recognises the contribution of effective Union organisation to productive workplace relations and that Unions are legitimate representatives of employees at the University. The University will not discriminate against or prejudice an employee in their employment because of their Union membership, Union activity or in their role as a delegate or representative.
The University supports the system of collective bargaining with the Unions and resolving employee relations issues through discussion and agreement. All parties acknowledge the right of staff to be represented by a union for maintaining cooperative employee relations. Enterprise agreements apply to all staff covered by the enterprise agreements, regardless of whether they are a union member or not.
All entitlements under the enterprise agreement - including union and labour rights - apply equally to all staff regardless of any attribute, including but not limited to age, race, sex, gender identity and expression, marital/relationship status, parental status, family responsibilities, pregnancy, refugee or asylum seeker status, and/or trade union activity. For a full list of protected attributes, please refer to the University Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
Griffith University employees are eligible to join the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU).
