Support for talented swimming athletes
In recognition of the ongoing partnership between Swimming Australia and Griffith University, multiple swimming scholarships are available for athletes commencing and continuing their studies at Griffith University.
Swimming Australia and Griffith University recognise the challenges for athletes as they transition from junior to senior athletes. These scholarships are designed to support talented athletes on their journey from elite junior swimming towards the Australian Dolphins team. When awarding and allocating these scholarships, consideration will be given to factors including costs to relocate for study, First Nations athletes and para-athletes.

Scholarship details
To be eligible, you must:
- be an Australia citizen, Australian permanent resident, or permanent humanitarian visa holder
- be currently enrolled in, or be eligible for admission into and commence in any of Griffith University’s undergraduate degrees in Trimester 1 2025
- be in good academic progress (continuing students only)
- be a swimmer who has competed in a Swimming Australia National Championship or State Championship event in the last two years (2023 and 2024)
- not be in receipt of a Griffith University Sports Excellence Scholarship.

- Personal statement: To give yourself the best chance, we recommend you complete the personal statement. In 500 words or less, outline your:
- career goals and aims
- sporting achievements—either in this section or as an attachment (see supporting documentation section below).
- Supporting documentation: You must upload the following in the supporting documentation (other) section:
- A comprehensive date-ordered list (showing 2024 first in the list and going backwards, that is, 2024, 2023, 2022, etc.) of your swimming achievements, including times and placing/ranking
- Copies of your most outstanding swimming certificates/awards/copies of media articles that make you stand out.

Cash benefit
Maximum value is $5,000 payable in instalments. Instalments of $2,500 are payable for each full-time enrolled trimester conditions are met, up to maximum value of the scholarship Pro-rata payments for part-time enrolment.
(Recipients who are commencing students and are eligible for membership with the Griffith University’s Development Swimming Squad and need to relocate to study may receive an additional $2,500 payable with the first scholarship instalment).
Membership of the Griffith Sports College
Recipients of the Swimming Australia Scholarships are automatic members of the Griffith Sports College. Membership includes personal assistance and study assistance, as outlined in the Elite Athlete Support Policy.
Payments
Payments are made up to six weeks after the census date, subject to satisfying scholarship terms and conditions.
Please note, payments made whilst studying part-time may be taxable.
To remain eligible for the scholarship, you will be required to:
- remain enrolled at Griffith University
- remain in good academic progress (GPA 3.5 or above); a student who is excluded from study under any University procedure loses their scholarship
- continue to swim and maintain appropriate progression, and submit a sporting performance reports on a biannual basis.
Scholarship recipients:
- may take leave of absence in accordance with university procedure (scholarship benefits are suspended for the period of leave of absence)
- who are not enrolled and are not on an approved leave of absence may lose their scholarship.
The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated.
Applications, including referee reports and any supporting documentation, must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

Applicants may be shortlisted and be required to provide additional information.
Griffith University reserves the right to withdraw an advertised scholarship at any time.
