Financial aid for course requirements

The Neville Bonner Scholarship is for students who have experienced financial hardship and/or educational disadvantage that has impacted their ability to achieve their full potential.

To be eligible you must:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander*
  • be eligible for admission into or be currently enrolled in any of Griffith University's undergraduate degrees (this includes school leavers and non-school leavers, commencing and continuing students) in 2023
  • demonstrate financial disadvantage by either:
    • being in receipt of a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment; or
    • a comprehensive assessment by the University.
  • not have completed the requirements for an Australian bachelor award unless such an award is a pre-requisite to their undergraduate program of enrolment and there is no alternate pathway into that program.

*You may be asked to provide a Confirmation of Heritage (a Letter of Confirmation is usually obtained from an incorporated Indigenous organisation and stamped with their common seal).

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the following sections within the application:

Application assessment

Applicants are assessed on the following five categories:

  • financial hardship
  • home environment and responsibilities
  • English language difficulty
  • personal illness and disability
  • educational disruption.

Priority

Priority will be given to students who:

  • are not in receipt of any other Commonwealth-funded scholarship, such as the Centrelink Start-Up Scholarship or Relocation Grant, and in accordance with any Commonwealth legislation
  • either demonstrate the potential for or have the proven ability for successful academic progression.

Value

This scholarship is valued at $2,500, payable in a single instalment.

Payment

Payments are made up to six weeks after the census date, subject to satisfying scholarship terms and conditions.

Payment is made, after census, on confirmation that you are enrolled at Griffith University and still meet eligibility requirements.

Applications must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

Offers are made via email.

Applicants may be shortlisted and be required to provide additional information.

Griffith University reserves the right to withdraw an advertised scholarship at any time.
