The Brighter Futures Midwifery Scholarships are designed to support students enrolled in Griffith University's Bachelor of Midwifery program who are experiencing financial hardship, carer responsibilities and/or social disadvantage.

Scholarship details

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, permanent humanitarian visa holder or permanent resident
  • enrolled in Griffith University's Bachelor of Midwifery program by the closing date of this scholarship
  • experiencing financial hardship, carer responsibilities and/or social disadvantage.

Examples of social disadvantage may include but are not limited to:

  • having come from a background of poverty
  • being a sole carer for a family member(s)
  • being a parent of a child with special needs
  • being a legal Australian resident who may have had previous experience or status as a refugee.

Application information

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the following sections within the application.

Study details

  • Tertiary education history (commencing students)—academic merit: GPA.
  • Secondary education history (commencing students)—academic merit: OP.
  • Program preferences (commencing students).
  • Program (continuing students)—Academic Merit: GPA.

Personal background

  • Income and expenditure.
  • Circumstances.

Statements

To give yourself the best chance, we recommend you complete the personal statement, all statements you complete will be considered.

  • Personal statement – outline your career goals and how this scholarship would benefit you completing your studies.
  • Challenge statement – outline your circumstances in details, such as social circumstances of significant hardship or disadvantage, family carer and/or parenting responsibilities and all other challenges you have had to overcome.

Value

Maximum value of $5,000, payable in instalments of $2,500 in Trimester 1 and 2.

Payment

Payments are made within six weeks after the census date, subject to the recipient satisfying the scholarship terms and conditions.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, the recipient will be required to:

  • remain full-time enrolled (part-time in extenuating circumstances) at Griffith University in the Bachelor of Midwifery program
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 4
  • submit to the Student Financial Support and Scholarships Office a report at the end of each academic year for which the scholarship is paid, outlining how the scholarship has benefited them.

These terms and conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, it is at the discretion of the scholarships selection committee to withhold the trimester instalment or terminate the scholarship. The recipient must show cause to the Student Financial Support and Scholarships Office as to why the scholarship should not be terminated.

Applications must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

Applicants may be shortlisted and be required to provide additional information.

Griffith University reserves the right to withdraw an advertised scholarship at any time.
