The Doctor of Medicine First Peoples Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to support the participation and success of First Peoples candidates in the medical degree at Griffith University.

Scholarship details

To be eligible you must be:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander*
  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • eligible for admission and commence the Doctor of Medicine degree (5099) as a First Peoples candidate as outlined in the First Peoples’ Health Pathway.

*Confirmation of Heritage may be required, such as a letter of confirmation obtained from an incorporated Indigenous organisation and stamped with their Common Seal.

Statements

  • Personal statement: Outline how the scholarship will support your participation and success in the Doctor of Medicine degree.
  • Supporting documentation: Provide Confirmation of Aboriginality (Proof of Aboriginality | AIATSIS ) or provide a letter of support from relevant community organisations (e.g. ATSICHS, IUIH and Elder or other known Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person in the community).

Value

Doctor of Medicine First Peoples Scholarship is valued at a maximum of $20,000 based on a four-year Doctor of Medicine degree.

Instalments of $2,500 are payable in Trimester 1 and 2 provided all conditions are met, up to the maximum value of the scholarship or minimum duration of the degree, whichever is the lesser.

Payment

Payments are made up to six weeks after the census date subject to satisfying scholarship terms and conditions.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:

  • remain full time enrolled at Griffith University in the Doctor of Medicine degree
  • maintain a passing grade in all courses in the degree at Griffith University.

The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated.
