The aims of the Association of Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (ADFAS) are the promotion and advancement of aesthetic education, the cultivation and study of the decorative and fine arts and the preservation of our cultural and artistic heritage.
The first ADFAS was formed in Sydney in 1985 by Mrs Patricia Robertson OAM and was based on the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) founded in England in 1968. ADFAS was formed in 1989 to co-ordinate the activities of the individual societies within Australia. The Gold Coast society was established in 2002 and has around 264 members, who meet eight times a year to attend lectures. Most speakers come from the UK and are experts in their field incl. curators of galleries or professionals who have written widely in their subjects).
The Society raises money for their ADFAS Young Arts Program, which is spent supporting students in our community.
