Exploring and exploiting the quantum world to build tomorrow’s technology
QUATRI brings together researchers capable of understanding the quantum world with the scientists, mathematicians and engineers who can translate this knowledge into technologies that benefit everyone. Our research spans several disciplines from quantum foundations, nano-scale physics to materials development and microfluidics.
Boosting all this research is our state-of-the-art facilities—with unique scientific equipment, not found anywhere else in Australia—including the Queensland Microtechnology Facility. Our semiconductor facility makes us unique in the quantum technology sector, as we are the only centre in Australia that can grow high-quality nanometre-thine silicon carbide films.
But all this capability would go untapped, without our commitment to research excellence and Griffith’s culture of cross-discipline collaboration. QUATRI experts have already pioneered world-first technology that could be game changing—our focus is to scale up our capacity to lead major commercial and research projects with external partners.
Griffith brings home top award for quantum physics paper
A team from Griffith University received the prestigious 2023 Paul Ehrenfest Best Paper Award for the most significant paper in the foundation of quantum physics published in the preceding five years.
The winning paper, published in Nature Physics, addressed a knowledge of the most fundamental kind in physics: What is an observer?
The research was done by an international team lead by Professor Howard Wiseman, Dr Nora Tischler and Associate Professor Eric Cavalcanti—who accepted the award in person from the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
