The Centre currently employs over 20 highly trained staff on contract research projects, fellowships and research grants, with expertise, extensive and in-depth experience in economic evaluations, health economics and analytics, evidence-based medicine, biostatistics, data management and epidemiology and its application to real world situations.
For over 18 years, the Centre has been providing contract research for government, non-government organisations and industry. Closely associated with the School of Medicine and Dentistry, CAHE has direct access to clinical and health management professionals from a wide range of disciplines.

Director
Professor Josh Byrnes as Director of the Centre for Applied Health Economics, is responsible for building Griffith University's already strong program of health research, developing partnerships and leading research aimed at improving health and healthcare, and impacting policy and practice globally. Josh has expertise in economics, health economics and critical appraisal of economic evaluations. He is also highly experienced in trial design, health technology assessment, economic evaluation of healthcare programs including cost-effectiveness and cost-utility modelling, systematic reviews, project management and biostatistics.

Associate Professor Martin Downes
Associate Professor Martin Downes leads the health technology assessment team at CAHE and has experience in, epidemiology, study design, health technology assessment, project management, and analysing data. Key area involves; evaluation of new technologies for listing on the PBS and the MBS. Associate Professor Downes is also the Director of the Economic, Policy and Innovation Centre for Health Systems (EPIC) which hosts both the Centre for Applied Health Economics and Changing Health Systems (CHESS) research areas.
Professor Angus (Shu-Kay) Ng
Professor Ng is an internationally-recognised expert in biostatistics in mixture models, the EM algorithm, and random-effects modelling, with significant impact on tackling real-world problems in the fields of medical and health sciences. He has engaged in multidisciplinary research projects, clinical trials, Government and consultancy contracts and evaluation, editorial committees and grant assessment.
Professor Paul Scuffham
Professor Scuffham was Director of the former Menzies Health Institute Queensland from 2018 – 2024, where he built on Griffith's already strong program of allied health research, developing partnerships and leading research aimed at improving health and health care. Paul has more than 20 years' experience as a researcher and advisor to healthcare organisations in Australia, the United Kingdom and internationally. Professor Scuffham is also an active research member of the Centre for Applied Health Economics.
Professor Robert Ware
Professor Ware’s research expertise includes the design and analysis of longitudinal studies, the effects of missing data, construction and analysis of large linked health-focused data sets, vaccine epidemiology and the design and analysis of clinical trial data.
