The LASA is a study of the developmental and behavioural trajectories of children on the autism spectrum
Focusing on the relationships between child characteristics, type and amount of intervention and participation in school, educational placement, and outcomes (social, behavioural and academic).
The overall aim of the project was to determine the relationship, if any, between child/family characteristics, their experiences of intervention and school support and child developmental and behavioural trajectories. The project started in 2014 with the first year of data collection in 2015. Data was collected annually for 6 years (2015 – 2020).
The project was a prospective longitudinal study with annual data collection from parents, children, teachers and principals. Data was collected via on-line surveys. The surveys contained standardised and non-standardised assessments. Two cohorts of children on the autism spectrum aged 4-5yrs and 9- 10yrs were recruited in 2015. Participants were 10-11 years and 14-15 years at the completion of the study.
The LASA was part of a research program funded by Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Living with Autism (Autism CRC). The Autism CRC was funded in 2013 by the Australian Government.
