China Scholarship Council (CSC) Sino-Australian Innovative Talents in Tourism Program – Griffith Business School and Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU)
Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) and Griffith University have established a jointly supervised PhD program to support SYSU graduates of exceptional research potential to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy program, supported by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) Sino-Australian Innovative Talent in Tourism Program. Candidates may enrol at Griffith or at SYSU and may spend up to 12 months at the non-enrolling institution to undertake the project.
Scholarship details
Where enrolled at Griffith, Griffith will provide a Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship to cover the full cost of tuition for up to four (4) years, as well as Overseas Students Health Cover for 42 months.
CSC will provide a living allowance scholarship for up to 48 months, a return international airfare, and visa application fees.
Applicants will be required to appoint at least one supervisor based at SYSU and at least two supervisors based at Griffith.
Research projects will be in tourism related academic disciplines including but not limited to tourism, sport and hotel management. Other areas such as accounting, economics, finance, marketing, employment relations and human resources, international business and Asian studies, government and international relations, business and commercial law can be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Research projects will be developed utilising the research facilities and resources of each institution. Candidates will spend up to one (1) year of the program studying away at SYSU, normally during year 2 of the research.
Initial screening and recruitment will be the responsibility of SYSU. Applicants are required to meet the SYSU eligibility criteria.
Applicants nominated by SYSU will be eligible to apply for PhD admission and scholarship at Griffith. Applicants must meet all relevant Griffith academic entry requirements, including the prescribed level of English language proficiency for PhD admission and scholarships at Griffith. Candidates are required to hold a bachelor degree with first-class honours or second-class honours (Division A), or be regarded by Griffith as having an equivalent level of attainment, as specified on the Equivalent qualifications for HDR program admission webpage. Admission will be conditional on award of CSC sponsorship.
Applicants approved by Griffith must apply to CSC and meet the selection criteria set out by CSC Innovative Talents Program.
SYSU will advertise the program and set closing dates.
Apply to Griffith
Suitably qualified candidates supported by SYSU will apply for admission and scholarship to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at Griffith in one of the following rounds each year
- Round 1 closes 1 November
- Round 2 closes 1 May
Griffith will assess all applications in accordance with its PhD admission requirements, including academic performance standards and English language proficiency requirements, and provide offer letters by February or August of each year.
Apply to the China Scholarship Council
Candidates who have obtained an offer letter from Griffith must submit an online application and supporting documents to CSC for funding. The deadline for application will be specified on the CSC website.
Accepting an offer
Candidates who are successful in obtaining scholarship funding from CSC will forward confirmation to Griffith by the date specified in the Griffith offer letter. Candidates will be required to commence in one of the commencement intake dates below.
