All you need to get ready for O-Week

Orientation Week (O-Week) is usually held the week before lectures and classes start each trimester.

O-Week is when we welcome new students to Griffith and help you get settled in.

Trimester 3 O-Week runs from 28 October to 1 November 2024

Be sure to plan your personalised itinerary via the Orientation Planner:

Why attend O-Week?

O-Week is a great opportunity for you to:

  • meet new people and make new friends
  • get comfortable with campus facilities and class locations
  • get your student ID card
  • make sure you are correctly enrolled
  • participate in study skills workshops
  • attend important academic sessions to help you to get ready for classes
  • generally have fun.

Research shows that attendance at orientation is a predictor of academic success, so we hope to see you at O-Week!

OWLs will show you the way

Keep an eye out for Orientation Week Leaders (OWLs) on campus and online during O-Week. OWLs are current Griffith students who volunteer to help during O-Week. They can assist by answering questions, providing directions and sharing advice on life at Griffith.

To find out when and where the OWLs will be, and to join the fun, follow them on Facebook or Instagram.

Plan your O-Week

Make the most of orientation with the Orientation Planner, your personlised itinerary of O-Week events.

The Orientation Planner is where you'll find information on:

  • welcome sessions
  • skills workshops
  • social events to meet staff and students
  • tours to explore the university.

Build your O-Week itinerary by adding events from your Planner. If O-Week is relevant to your experience, you will be able to access the Planner via the Access > Online spaces task of myOrientation.

Online orientation tools

Some orientation events will be hosted in one of the online spaces you will regularly use as a student at Griffith.

Before O-Week, check out the basics on how to download, access and use the tools below so you will be ready to join your events.

For most online orientation events, you will need your Griffith student number (your username) and password to join in.

For help with your Griffith student number, contact Student Connect.

Microsoft Teams

We use Teams at Griffith as a communication and meetings tool. Some O-Week events will be held via Teams. We also strongly encourage you to join your Welcome Team to connect with other students before O-Week.

Griffith Welcome Session

This online event for undergraduate commencing students is all about connecting with your peers. You'll also meet your student mentors, who will guide you through some of the essential information, resources and services you need to know at the start of your studies.

It is recommended you access this event using a computer. Check your Orientation Planner for all the details of when and how to attend.

School-based orientation

Your school orientation is compulsory, and included in your Orientation Planner. Each school may have their own mandatory sessions and additional events to ensure you are as ready as you can be to start your studies.

Library orientation

The Library can help you prepare for your study by helping you develop essential study skills and providing access to a wide range of online resources.

Get your free Student Handbook

The Griffith Student Handbook is packed with helpful tips and important information to help you succeed.

In Trimester 3, you can collect your copy from a GU Info Hub during O-Week at the Gold Coast or Nathan campus.
