Our Scott Reid Memorial Scholarship is offered in partnership with RedeMont Gold Coast. It honours the memory of Scott Reid, Partner of the firm, who was a brilliant leader, mentor, lawyer and family man, who approached both his professional and personal life with great humility, empathy and good humour. Scott also devoted much of his life to the development of AFL in Papua New Guinea, which now has more than 2.5 million people who have played the game and participates in international AFL tournaments in Australia.
The Scott Reid Memorial Scholarship rewards a Papua New Guinean student applying for Law who meets the selection criteria:
- Demonstrated capacity for leadership, initiative and service to your community
- Epitomise Scott’s approach to life – ‘Laugh a lot, stand strong and keep it all in perspective’
- Seeks to use your law degree to make a difference.
The scholarship includes a one-month paid law clerkship annually (up to a maximum of 4 years), providing practical experience, progressive skills growth and mentorship.

Eligibility
To be eligible you must:
- Be a citizen of Papua New Guinea or demonstrate affinity with the Papua New Guinea community. In the event of there being no such applicant, applicants of Pacific Islands heritage or affinity will be considered.
- Have applied to study an eligible law program at Griffith’s Gold Coast campus by the scholarship application closing date.
- Satisfy all academic and English language entry requirements for the Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/double degree or Juris Doctor program.
- Be a full-time student starting in Trimester 1 2026.

Process
- Apply to study an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework law program at Griffith University.
- Apply for the scholarship by the closing date. You will need to include academic records and a personal statement that outlines your merit for the scholarship based on three selection criteria.
- A scholarship assessment panel will review your application.
- Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview, either in-person or via video conference.
- We will let you know the outcome of your application.
Receiving the scholarship
- To receive the scholarship, you will need to accept both your program offer and the scholarship by the deadline. If you don’t accept the scholarship by the date specified in your Scholarship Letter, the scholarship will be withdrawn.
- Two payments of $2,500 will be made, one in the first trimester and another in the second trimester of the program. It will be applied by census date of each relevant trimester.
- The scholarship includes a one-month paid law clerkship position at RedeMont Gold Coast during each year of full-time enrolment (up to a maximum of 4 years). The timing of each clerkship will be agreed to annually by RedeMont Gold Coast and the scholarship recipient.
I chose to study at Griffith because of the wide range of programs offered, with a very conducive study environment, and because of the location. The University support activities have been awesome. Very effective and efficient support programs are set up, which works well for students to engage in and associate with students of different groups and races.

Terms and conditions
- Griffith University academic and English language entry requirements apply, including results of previous study and English language proficiency.
- Scholarship applies to students studying the Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/double degree or Juris Doctor only.
- The scholarship is valued at $5,000 in total. Two payments of $2,500 will be made, one in the first trimester and another in the second trimester of the program. It will be applied by census date of each relevant trimester.
- The scholarship also includes a one-month paid law clerkship position at RedeMont Gold Coast during each year of full-time enrolment (up to a maximum of 4 years). When each law clerkship position commences and ceases will be agreed to annually by RedeMont Gold Coast and the scholarship recipient.
- Students must be International Fee Paying to qualify for the scholarship and each scholarship payment. Any change from International Fee Paying student status will result in the scholarship being withdrawn.
- Deferral of scholarships is not permitted.
Ongoing enrolment requirements
- Students must be enrolled full-time and making progress in their studies that meets their student visa requirements to receive and maintain the scholarship payment, and/or meet the requirements of their program of study, unless credit prevents full-time enrolment.
- Students must remain enrolled in the program for which the scholarship offer was made, which is stated on the Letter of Offer issued by Griffith International Admissions.
- To maintain scholarship eligibility, students must pass all the requirements for each trimester of studies and successfully progress on to enrol in the next trimester. A minimum cumulative GPA of 4 on a 7.0 grading scale must be maintained to qualify in the following trimester of enrolment. Cumulative GPA is GPA accumulated for grades awarded to the student across all terms in their student program.
- Students must perform satisfactorily in the annual law clerkship position at RedeMont Gold Coast to maintain scholarship eligibility.
