Griffith University’s flagship for biomedical research
Griffith University’s Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics is a multidisciplinary biomedical research institute for the discovery, development and commercialisation of drugs, vaccines and diagnostics to fight diseases of global impact. Our research targets the prevention and cure of infectious diseases, cancers and neurological conditions in a unique research environment.
Through world-class, innovative research; global collaboration; state-of-the-art facilities; world leading areas of expertise including glycomics and a focus on translating biomedical discoveries to the clinic, we strive to deliver real and immediate impact on human health globally and to create a brighter future for all.
Inspiring excellence
Through innovation and expertise in biomedical and glycomics research with a focus on technology development – from discovery through to clinical trial – we are committed to delivering life-saving diagnostics, preventions and cures to those who need them the most.
Positioned for impact
The Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics houses facilities on Griffith University’s Gold Coast and Brisbane South (Nathan) campuses. We are positioned within South-East Queensland’s network of health and knowledge precincts, allowing for optimal connectivity with a booming biomedical industry, state-of-the-art hospitals and healthcare centres and other premier research institutes and universities.
Our Gold Coast location is based in the heart of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge precinct – a global business destination recognised for transforming lives through healthcare innovation, new knowledge and next-generation technologies.
Our history
The Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics was formally established on 1 July 2024. Griffith University augmented its formidable strengths in biomedical research by bringing together the outstanding discovery and translational research, infrastructure, and training expertise of the former Institute for Glycomics, Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery (GRIDD) and biomedical teams from within the Menzies Health Institute Queensland (MHIQ).
