Internships open doors to new experiences
Shannon Langford undertook an industry placement with the QPWS Koala Research and Monitoring Team and following her success, was offered a short-term contract as a Wildlife Officer. Shannon now embarks on her journey to Malaysia where she'll be working on a Green Lung Connectivity Project as an intern with a not-for-profit organisation in Kuala Lumpur.
FirstWave Industry Awards
On November 1st, the Trimester 2 2022 FirstWave Industry Awards were held. All ICT WIL teams from Trimester 2 were considered for the award with Team 'HTH' taking out the win with their project "VR Home Design for Rehabilitation and Disabilities (Home to Hospital)".
Congratulations to Team 'HTH' and to all the teams who participated.
Bridging the gap between classroom and industry
Corey Johnson is an Android engineer for Uber's e-mobility team in San Francisco, where he builds solutions to bridge the digital and physical worlds. The Griffith University Bachelor of IT graduate traces his journey to the United States right back to his first work placement in Brisbane, at a start-up called RedEye. 'I wouldn't be here without the work placement, that's for sure,' he said. 'It was the first industry experience that I got, and it helped me build a starting point to get into the industry.' The placement was part of his final year studies and earned final credits towards his degree.
Bertie the E-Trike fixing Logan's footpaths
Logan City Council has partnered with Griffith University to develop an E-Trike that uses Artificial Intelligence to find crack and faults in the city’s network of footpaths. Known as ‘Bertie’, the E-trike has helped Engineering students gain valuable real-life work experience while at the same time streamlining an important Council service.
WIL Placement bringing sustainability to strata
Aaron Richardson, Sustainable Energy Engineering student from Griffith University has been assisting Wattblock with a detailed energy and water audit for a residential apartment complex in Albion Queensland. Wattblock is a Telstra muru-D backed start-up business with apartment building customers across Australia.
