Highly research-active across a wide range of areas
The School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences is involved in ground-breaking research across multiple fields, for example cancer, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, neuroscience, skeletal biology, pharmacy practice, pharmacology, pharmaceutics and complementary medicine.
Our school researchers are well known for publishing in high-ranking journals and for making innovative discoveries designed for end-users (patients, health professionals, industry, etc.). Our staff have been awarded numerous NHMRC, ARC and other government research grants, as well as funding from the Pharmacy Guild and philanthropic organisations. We also have industry contracts and funding and consistently publish papers in high-ranking journals.
Many of our researchers are affiliated or collaborate with the following institutes.
Cities Research Institute
The physical, chemical and biological environment we live in affects our wellbeing. Making sure we have clean drinking water, good hygiene, effective pest and disease control, and good housing is important to our overall health. Our environmental health researchers work in multi-disciplinary teams across the research themes of Griffith's Cities Research Institute.
Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics
The new Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics will harness Griffith's strength in biomedical research to deliver real and immediate impacts, locally and globally. By bringing together the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery, the Institute for Glycomics, and biomedical teams from within the former Menzies Health Institute Queensland, this new entity will deliver innovative, multidisciplinary, translational science in a unique research environment.
Alliance for Vascular Access Teaching and Research (AVATAR)
AVATAR is a global research network whose vision is to 'make vascular access complications history'. AVATAR's nurses, medical doctors, midwives, pharmacists, health economists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians and medical scientists are uniquely placed to target complications including difficult insertion, infections, dislodgement, occlusion, skin injury, vein damage and blood clots related to vascular catheters.
Gut Health Clinic
It is important to understand how communities of gut bacteria may differ between people and how these differences affect our health. By profiling your microbiome we will be able to provide you important information on the diversity and composition of your gut bacteria.
Stroke study
A Griffith University study using US, FDA approved Etanercept (Enbrel) as treatment for stroke patients.
Clinical Trial Unit
Griffith University's Clinical Trial Unit, located within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct and adjacent to Gold Coast University Hospital, provides state-of-the-art facilities and professional coordination services for phase I-IV clinical trials.
Body Bequest
The Body Donation Program provides practical opportunities to study and perform research on the human body in a controlled educational environment. Donors make a vital contribution to the training of the next generation of scientists, and medical and allied health professionals.
Giving
Your financial support will contribute to ensuring that we will continue to make that all important difference in the education of our students and researchers. You can make a financial donation via the telephone, mail or online.
Please be assured that all donations are eligible for tax deductions. The Advancement Office at Griffith University is responsible for handling all financial donations.
