From classroom to cruise!
Through an exciting 8-day voyage on board a cruise ship to the South Pacific islands, students will gain a personal and holistic understanding of the vibrant and dynamic international cruise product.
About the course
This course comprises of lectures, guest speakers from the cruise industry, and other experiences provided during the cruise, 'real-time' exposure and insight will be gained into industry structure and trends, supply chains, cruise ship operations, revenue generation strategies, marketing, the passenger experience at sea and on land, and risk management. The industry's economic, environmental, and sociocultural sustainability will also be assessed from diverse stakeholder perspectives. The first six lectures will be delivered at Nathan and Gold Coast campuses. The remaining lectures and workshops will be delivered in the Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas conference facility during the international 7-day cruise experience.
This course is in the Bachelor and Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management (BITHM and MITHM) and is offered by the Department of Tourism, Sport, and Hotel Management within the Griffith Business School. This course is also offered as a university-wide 'Free-choice' elective (i.e., a course not specified within the degree requirements or course list of a program). Thus, students from other disciplines who are interested in experiential learning about the cruise industry may enrol provided all prerequisites are met and the elective contributes toward the degree requirements of their program. This course has restricted entry with convener approval required.
