One graduating student is chosen to deliver the student speech at each graduation ceremony. This is your chance to represent your fellow graduating students and lead them in celebration of your academic achievements. We recommend you use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to submit your application.

To nominate yourself or a peer (with their permission) to speak on behalf of the Class of 2025, you must:

  • Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.5
  • Be eligible to graduate in July 2025 or have graduated earlier in 2025
  • Be in a program of one or more years (full-time equivalent) in length
  • Provide the name of an academic or administrative staff member who supports your nomination
  • Submit a sample video of your speech (up to 60 seconds in length and up to 10MB in file size)

Things to keep in mind

  • You will be representing all graduating students in your Academic Group (undergraduate, postgraduate and research students from a range of disciplines), so we are looking for someone who can resonate with the whole group, not just those from your classes.
  • Your speech can be serious or light-hearted, but no longer than three minutes.
  • This is a wonderful opportunity to thank those who support students on their academic journey (family, friends, staff).
  • If you are selected as the Student Speaker for your ceremony, you will receive four free guest tickets.

How to nominate

Fill out the nomination form and upload your sample video. Nominations close on Sunday 1 June. Successful nominees will be notified by Friday 27 June.
