Future Leaders Retreat

Can students drive to and park at the Retreat?

Yes. There will be free parking available at the event. Buses will also be provided between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, as well as from accommodation to arranged activities.

Are students required to stay at the provided accommodation?

Yes. To ensure students have the full event experience—and to meet our duty of care—all students are required to stay at the provided accommodation.

Is there an associated cost?

The Retreat is free for all invited students, however transportation to and from the event is at personal or school cost.

What is the accommodation like?

Think school camp. You will be in a shared dorm room in a single-gender cabin.

Do we have to nominate student leaders, such as school captains?

Not necessarily! We welcome nominations for all of your students, including students who might have otherwise been overlooked for leadership positions.

Can a student self-nominate?

Students cannot apply direct via Griffith University, however they can self-nominate as part of your school’s internal selection process.

Where do I nominate students?

School contacts will begin receiving emails from 3 October, which will include a link to the nomination form. Please liaise with your colleagues when nominating your 2-5 students per school.

Is the retreat and accommodation supervised?

Yes, the Retreat will be supervised by Blue Card-holding staff at all times.

My child has additional needs (medical/accessible/physical), can they still participate?

Absolutely. The venues and accommodation are all accessible, and there will be staff who are trained in physical and mental health. Students should bring any medicine they require and make our team aware of any allergies.
