Empowering our future water leaders
Course Introduction
This course aims to provide water professionals with a modular, online training course to build understanding, skills and confidence in the following areas:
- Building the capacity of new team leaders through understanding key leadership methods and principles.
- Awareness of the methods and principles of leadership development that new team leaders need to apply to their own development.
- An understanding of, and the ability to apply the fundamentals of, self-leadership which is the foundation of all other forms of leadership.
- The ability to apply fundamental team leadership concepts and tools to common team leadership challenges.
- Awareness of, and the capacity to apply, the keys to successful team leadership, including leading virtual teams and teams that need to be led without much authority (e.g. cross-boundary project teams).
- The ability to build a simple leadership development plan to guide one’s development.
- The capacity to reflect on the content of the course to identify team leadership-related strengths, weaknesses and specific opportunities to improve.
Please note this course is delivered asynchronously, there are no compulsory live sessions, with an expected time commitment of 2-4 hours per week for six weeks.
Course Details
Price: $500 for AWA members and $600 for non-members (GST Exclusive). Group discounts available for organisations sending 3 or more participants. Meet the Team
André Taylor
Course Coordinator
André is a leadership development specialist, water practitioner and sustainability practitioner. His professional purpose is to work with enthusiastic leaders to drive positive change and make the world a better place, whilst demonstrating values of integrity, enabling others, sustainability and continuous learning. He has worked in the water sector for most of his 30 year career, and did his PhD research on leadership in the water sector. André has played leadership development roles at the International WaterCentre / Griffith University, the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, the International RiverFoundation, the University of New South Wales Business School, and through his own consulting business.
Peter Wegener
Course Facilitator
Peter is a Senior Project Manager at the International WaterCentre where he has been closely involved in the development and delivery of the Master of Integrated Water Management Program, as well as other capacity development and research projects. He has a strong interest in individual and community capacity development, through the provision of inclusive learning environments and encouragement of critical thinking and collaborative action. Peter is passionate about working with others to improve how we manage water for the environment and society. He has experience in a variety of fields, including tertiary education, agricultural research and extension, and community development.
