Be part of a research community making a difference

The Coastal and Marine Research Centre offers a number of learning opportunities for schools, students and community groups. Whether you’re looking to study with us, volunteer, or complete a professional development short course, there are many ways to engage and learn with us.

Explore the options below and get involved with one of Australia’s leading centres for coastal and marine research.

Higher Degree by Research

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and other Higher Degree Research candidates play an important role at the Coastal and Marine Research Centre. Our collaborative culture encourages students to share ideas, progress and findings, supplemented by opportunities for professional development and volunteer work across the centre.

Honours study

An honours program provides opportunities to engage in specialised and extended research, under the close supervision of an academic. These programs can enhance your employment opportunities and are a direct pathway into a PhD or other Griffith research degree. Honours study programs can be undertaken at the centre, either as part of a bachelor degree or as a one-year program following graduation from a bachelor degree in the same discipline.

Coastal Resilience Short Course

Hazards such as tropical cyclones, storm surges, erosion, water-level fluctuations, sea rise and climate change frequently challenge coastal communities, infrastructure and ecosystems in Australia and the Asia–Pacific region.

This professional development course covers coastal resilience theory and practice, using the Australian experience in managing coastal hazards and planning for the future as a guide for intrastate, interstate and international participants.

CoastEd

The CoastEd program provides valuable information and resources to schools and the community, increasing awareness and participation in coastal management.

We offer field trips, classroom experiences, lesson plans, pocket guides and educational resources for:

  • kindergartens
  • primary schools
  • high schools
  • community groups.
