All in the Griffith community have the right to study and work free from harassment, bullying, discrimination or other behaviours that impact negatively on others.
On this page, understand your rights and access to security on campus. Read tips on how to help protect your personal safety, to ensure property security, and how to report an incident.

You can request your identity remain private.
Whoever you speak to will record the “contact” but not disclose your identity without your permission. You can submit an online complaint form or an incident form anonymously if you do not want your identity to be known.
Formal complaints will be investigated. Remember you can pursue other options anytime, including reporting an incident to police.

Report an incident
If you see or are involved in an incident, please report it to the University or the police
Personal safety
Protect your own personal security
- Avoid isolated places, especially at night. Try not to be out alone after dark.
- Stick to well-lit routes where there are people in sight.
- If you are going out late, try to tell someone where you’re going and what time you expect to be back.
- Don’t accept lifts from strangers.
- Trust your gut instincts and avoid people and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.
- Don’t allow ‘tailgaters’ to enter secured doors behind you.
- Jog or bike during daylight and only in areas you are familiar with.
- If exercising, jog with a group of friends.
- Don't use earphones connected to a portable music device when out alone. It will distract you from who and what is around you.
- When you are socialising, don't leave your drink unattended and don't drink too much. Keeping a clear head makes it easier to make wise decisions when it comes to personal safety.
- Never accept food or drink from someone who is strange to you. If you didn’t see the food or drink being made, never take it (unless it’s in an unopened container). Always keep your eyes on your food or drink during a party or date.
- Be careful what you share on social media. Be cautious when announcing your location and who you are with.
Services to help ensure your safety
- Security escort to travel safely to your car and around campus at night.
- Security Bus Service (Nathan and Gold Coast) this service is from 6 pm and runs every half hour until 30 minutes after the Library closes.
- Contact the Campus Support Team by calling 1800 800 707 there are also phones in lifts and intercoms around campus.
Property security
Whether you're studying in the library, moving into a new share house or heading out with friends, it's important to take a sensible approach to your personal belongings.
- Mobile phones, laptop computers, digital music players are attractive to thieves. Be careful about where you take them and how you use them.
- Do not leave belongings unattended in libraries, labs or lecture theatres.
- Keep valuables out of sight in your car.
- Don’t leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended.
- Protect your belongings by locking doors each time you leave.
- Never let anyone see your PIN when entering it on an Automatic Teller Machine.
- Always carry your bag or purse close to you where it can not be easily snatched.
- Don't put your bag or purse on the floor when in a public toilet cubicle.
- When using Automatic Teller Machine machines, look behind you. Watch out for people watching you.
- Try not to use Automatic Teller Machine machines late at night.
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash around with you.
- Clearly mark your property to leave no doubt you own it.
- Keep bikes safe with a quality lock.
- Use our bike racks and end-of-trip facilities.
Register your lost property
If you have lost property on campus, please register your details via the online form:
If your items are found, Library staff or the Campus Support team will be able to contact you.
If you find someone else’s lost property, it can be handed in to your campus library or Campus Support office, outside of library opening hours.

All perishables and all general stationery items will be disposed of including:
- Water bottles
- Containers designed or used for food storage.
- All property (excluding perishables and stationery) are kept at campus libraries for one month.
