Apply your passion and university-knowledge in real classroom settings.
A key feature of your teaching degree is the invaluable practical experience offered through structured and supported work placements, designed to ensure you are career ready.
What is professional experience/prac?
Professional experience placements (or ‘prac’) are essential to your teaching practise and give you the chance to work alongside a mentor teacher and be part of a teaching team (in a school or early childhood setting). Teacher education students are 'preservice teachers'.
You are supported to practise your various teaching techniques with students, and continue to practically develop your skills, ready for your own teaching career. Placements give you an opportunity to:
- appreciate diverse communities
- make informed decisions about future employment options
- challenge preconceived ideas about what it’s like working and living in rural, remote and international locations
- enhance your employment prospects with access to school, local community and regional resources and networks.
School and industry networks
Griffith offers a vast network of partner schools and early childhood providers, as well as the opportunity to teach in rural, remote and culturally diverse locations within Australia and overseas.
Placements are undertaken in blocks of 10 to 30 days and are normally within 90 minutes of your home.
There were lots of people at Griffith who brought different perspectives and I found that is something I have brought into my career here working with different staff and teaching the kids to work with each other. I just think it’s such a good career bringing the next generation through and making a change.
