Important information for travel to Australia
Fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents are eligible to travel to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption.
All other temporary visa holders seeking to travel to Australia must apply for a travel exemption. Travel to Australia is only available if you are exempt or you have been granted an individual exemption.
Travel restrictions are subject to change in response to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19. You can stay informed with the latest updates by checking the Australian Government travel restrictions website regularly.
Proof of international vaccination
At Australia’s border more favourable entry rules apply to certain arriving travellers who can prove they are fully vaccinated. To benefit from these arrangements, travellers vaccinated in Australia need to present an Australian International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate. Travellers vaccinated in other countries can present certificates in formats that meet the following criteria:
- Issued by a national or state/provincial-level authority or an accredited vaccination provider
- Written in English or accompanied by a certified translation
- Containing at a minimum:
- name as it appears in the traveller's passport
- date of birth or passport number or national identity number*
- the vaccine brand name, and
- the date of each dose or the date on which a full course of immunisation was completed.
*If a certificate contains only a national identity number, and if that number does not appear in the traveller’s passport, then the traveller needs to show a national identity card that matches the identity number and name on the vaccination certificate.
Paper and digital certificates are equally acceptable.
