QCAD Visual Arts Masterclass Series

Open to the public, our masterclasses fall into two categories: the QCAD Visual Art Masterclass Series and Technical Workshops in Printmaking and Jewellery & Small Objects.

The QCAD Visual Art Masterclass Series involves a series of high-profile cross-disciplinary artists delivering weekend masterclasses. These classes connect QCAD to artists and the broader national visual arts community, while also providing opportunities for members of the public to connect with QCAD.

The technical workshops in Printmaking and Jewellery & Small Objects are specialist technical classes where students and members of the public can learn from QCAD academics and leading industry practitioners using the QCAD state-of-the-art studios and workshops.

Tony Albert and student holding art work

QCAD Visual Art students gained a unique insight into the studio practice of one of Australia’s most outstanding artists, Tony Albert, during an intensive weekend masterclass investigating his practice and processes.

A QCAD Contemporary Australian Indigenous alumnus, Tony Albert has a multidisciplinary practice that investigates contemporary legacies of colonialism, prompting audiences to contemplate the human condition. His technique and imagery displace traditional Australian Aboriginal aesthetics with an urban conceptuality. Appropriating textual references from sources as diverse as popular music, film, fiction, and art history, Albert plays with the tension arising from the visibility, and in-turn, the invisibility of Aboriginal people across the news media, literature, and the visual world.

Testimonial

"It was such a unique experience to be able to collaborate with artist Tony Albert. What an incredible way to kick off the masterclass series."
