Flim scholarship changes lives
Eyasu Church says receiving a film scholarship has been life-changing.
To honour the late alumnus Kieran Ricketts’ desire to make a difference in the world, his family teamed up with Griffith Film School (GFS) and the ABC to launch a scholarship for aspiring filmmakers.
Kieran’s scholarship and legacy has forever changed the course of my life in such an amazing and positive way.

The Kieran Ricketts Scholarship in Film and Screen media was awarded to aspiring documentary filmmaker Eyasu Church to support him throughout his Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production degree at GFS.
“Kieran’s scholarship and legacy has forever changed the course of my life in such an amazing and positive way,” Eyasu says. “He will forever be a part of my story and I know, through his scholarship, he will continue to create ripples of positive change for future students.”
The scholarship also included an internship opportunity at the ABC, a place where Kieran made a name for himself as a producer on a host of projects including Q&A, Hungry Beast, Big Ideas and ABC News 24.
All Eyasu’s hard work during this amazing opportunity paid off, and the ABC offered him a full-time position upon graduation.
Kieran’s mother, Ann Ricketts, says the family was pleased the scholarship would honour Kieran’s passion for storytelling.
“This has been a long time in the making, but we are so pleased that the two organisations Kieran had so much passion for will continue to honour him in the years to come,” she says.
“His desire to tell the stories that needed to be told will be carried on by other talented filmmakers.
“We recognise many of the attributes that made Kieran special in Eyasu.”
More than $100 million of philanthropy has already been secured to create a brighter future for all.
