In the late '90s, Griffith University's Gold Coast campus became the meeting ground for two young and aspiring engineers, Michael McVeigh and Greg O'Shea, who would go on to forge a remarkable partnership that would significantly impact Queensland's infrastructure landscape.

Michael McVeigh, a Gold Coast native, found Griffith University the ideal place to nurture his engineering dreams. The Bachelor of Engineering program provided a unique focus on coastal environmental management alongside construction, offering him a well-rounded education. After graduating with a major in Construction, Michael embarked on a journey that saw him assume leadership roles in various infrastructure projects. Reflecting on his time at Griffith, Michael recalls, "The Bachelor of Engineering gave me the foundation to address challenges and better resolve and prevent issues."

For Greg O'Shea, Griffith University was the perfect match. The program's construction emphasis and hands-on experience were tailored to his ambitions. After graduating with a major in Construction, Greg delved into a career that led him to serve on significant national and international civil projects, including residential developments, mining infrastructure, and roadworks. After eight years running his own venture, O'Shea Engineering Group, he transitioned to Co-Director of OM Civil, partnering with his Griffith peer, Michael McVeigh.

OM Civil, based in Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast, has flourished under their leadership, employing over 40 full-time professionals and leaving an enduring impact on Queensland's communities.

Beyond their professional journey, Michael and Greg have maintained a deep and lasting friendship, one that extends beyond their days at Griffith. Their bond is as strong as ever, and they are true partners in life. Michael shares, "Rock-solid. We share the same morals, ethics, and ambitions and have each other's back."

Their enduring friendship has not only benefited them personally but has also been integral to the success of OM Civil. Greg emphasises, "We're always there for each other," and it's this steadfast camaraderie that has helped them navigate the challenges of the business world.

Today, Michael and Greg continue to make a positive impact, both professionally and personally. They run a thriving family-owned civil construction company serving businesses, local governments, and state governments in South-East Queensland and New South Wales. Their commitment to their local community extends beyond their business, as they actively support local charities, surf clubs, and sporting organisations, further solidifying their legacy as impactful leaders.
