Executive General Manager, Group MLRO, Financial Crime Compliance, CBA
John Fogarty is the Executive General Manager, Financial Crime Compliance reporting to the Group Chief Risk Officer. John is the Group Money Laundering Reporting Officer and has overall accountability for the design and management of the Groups anti money laundering, terrorist financing, Sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption framework.
John started with the Bank in March 2018 and has over 25 years’ experience in financial markets in both Regulatory and Financial Crime Compliance. Prior to CBA he held senior Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance roles within HSBC, Westpac, CLSA and UBS in Australia, Singapore & Hong Kong. John’s career started in law enforcement as a Detective in the NSW Police Force, where he worked for several years, before moving into Regulatory roles at both the Sydney Futures Exchange and the Australian Stock Exchange. This ultimately led to his desire to work in Compliance roles within the banking industry.
Financial Crime Compliance has an important role to play in supporting the bank to achieve its purpose whilst protecting the broader community. The proliferation of financial crimes through money laundering, human trafficking, tax evasion, terrorism, bribery & corruption and fraud is a continuing challenge for all financial institutions across their geographical footprints. John has a keen interest in improving and developing industry practices used by financial institutions to manage financial crime risk, incorporating intelligence led analysis and technology enhancements.
