Honouring the power of creativity
 and community
Discover the story behind our special 50th anniversary icon, designed by one of our talented students to celebrate of Griffith’s distinctive heritage, decorated present and bright future.
Chosen by the University community, the icon is a testament to the wealth of creativity being nurtured at Griffith. It blends tradition with elements both contemporary and unmistakably Griffith and, in doing so, reflects the University’s ideal of respecting our past while refusing to be bound by it.
Deftly balancing style, effectiveness and deceptive simplicity, this icon pays homage to our historic ties to the environment, our strength in diversity and the unity that propels us forward into the unknown.
From the artist
This concept’s intent was to reflect integral parts of Griffith University: the community and commitment to sustainability. There is a great sense of community and value in people at Griffith, which extends beyond current years of study with groups such as Griffith Alumni. The commitment to sustainability and the environment is another key element reflected in the design. The diverse environments across all campuses are appreciated and recognised, so this commitment should be reflected in celebration of 50 years. This is illustrated by eucalyptus leaves, representing the distinctive flora at Griffith’s campuses. The connection between people/community and the environment is illustrated by circular lanes that represent all the different ways Griffith has set itself up as a leader in academic excellence, environmental impact and community engagement.
