The Outstanding Alumni Awards recognise Griffith graduates whose achievements are creating positive change across communities, industries and the world.

Winners will be announced at our September cocktail event, where we will celebrate alumni whose work embodies Griffith’s values.

Award categories

The Outstanding Alumnus Award is the highest award offered and is presented to a Griffith University alumnus who demonstrates sustained remarkable success in their chosen profession and a substantial contribution to their community. Outstanding Alumnus Award nominees must be a Griffith University alumnus (see Terms and conditions for definition). Nominees must also have at least ten (10) years’ work experience since completing their first Griffith University degree. Nominations will be assessed on alignment with the broad selection criteria outlined below:

  • Sustained remarkable success in and contribution to, their chosen industry/profession, showcased through professional positions, professional standing and recognition.
  • Substantial contribution to the community at local, state, national or international levels. This contribution may be as part of their employment or working as a volunteer in the charitable sector or other ways.
  • Demonstrated attributes in alignment with the values of Griffith University as outlined in the 'Statement of Values and Commitments'.

The Young Alumnus Award recognises a recent graduate’s early career successes and their demonstrated contribution to their community. Young Alumnus Award nominees must be a Griffith University alumnus (see Terms and conditions for definition). Nominees must also be under 35 years old (on the due date of the nomination) with at least four (4) years’ work experience since completing their first Griffith University degree. Nominations will be assessed on alignment with the broad selection criteria outlined below:

  • Demonstrated early success in, and contribution to, their chosen industry/profession, showcased through professional positions, professional standing and recognition.
  • Demonstrated contribution to the community at local, state, national or international levels. This contribution may be as part of their employment or working as a volunteer in the charitable sector or in other ways.
  • Demonstrated attributes in alignment with the values of Griffith University as outlined in the 'Statement of Values and Commitments'.

International students contribute to the rich diversity of the Griffith University student community. The International Alumnus Award recognises an international student who has successfully navigated international study and is now excelling in their professional career and contributing to their community. International Alumnus Award nominees must be a Griffith University alumnus (see Terms and conditions for definition) and have at least five (5) years’ work experience since the completion of their first Griffith University degree. As a student they would have been enrolled as an international student. Nominations will be assessed on alignment with the broad selection criteria outlined below:

  • Consistent success in, and contribution to, their chosen industry/profession, showcased through professional positions, professional standing and recognition.
  • Valuable contribution to the community at local, state, national or international levels. This contribution may be as part of their employment or working as a volunteer in the charitable sector or in other ways.
  • Demonstrated attributes in alignment with the values of Griffith University as outlined in the 'Statement of Values and Commitments'.

Griffith University has one of the largest numbers of First Peoples graduates of any Australian university. The First Peoples Alumnus Award recognises an alumnus of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descendent who is excelling in their professional career and contributing to the community. First Peoples Alumnus Award nominees must be a Griffith University alumnus (see Terms and conditions for definition) and have at least five (5) years’ work experience since completing their first Griffith University degree. Nominees must also be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Nominations will be assessed on alignment with the broad selection criteria outlined below:

  • Consistent success in, and contribution to, their chosen industry/profession, showcased through professional positions, professional standing and recognition.
  • Valuable contribution to the community at local, state, national or international levels. This contribution may be as part of their employment or working as a volunteer in the charitable sector or in other ways.
  • Demonstrated attributes in alignment with the values of Griffith University as outlined in the'Statement of Values and Commitments'.

Who can nominate?

The awards are conducted on an annual basis, and are open to all graduates of Griffith University and its predecessor institutions.

Award submissions will be accepted from both members of the Griffith University community and external nominators. This may include:

  • A graduate of Griffith University (self-nomination)
  • A current student of Griffith University
  • A Griffith University staff member
  • A member of the community

As Griffith University embodies a multi-disciplinary approach, alumni do not have to be working in the particular discipline from which they graduated.

The key dates for the 2026 Outstanding Alumni Awards are:

  • Nominations open: 14 February 2026
  • Nominations close: 6 May 2026
  • Awards ceremony: 17 September 2026
